Here an excerpt from the booklet:

Today in our society the Sacrament of Penance has been forgotten in many hearts. We as Catholics need to clearly understand the importance of this Sacrament. Thus, we have made an effort to bring forth this book to help us understand how blessed we are to receive the forgiveness of our sins in the Sacrament of Penance.

It is important for our salvation to open our heart to the Divine Will of God. We must always seek to purify our life through the means of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. How sad it is when a world needs this Sacrament so immensely, yet many neglect it completely. But living a Catholic life we are called to know better and know of its importance. It is important that we know the meaning of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, for many brothers and sisters go to the Sacrament of Penance with not the understanding of its full purpose or what it takes to be forgiven. And there are even those who do not even understand how this Sacrament came to be. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, gave the Sacrament of Penance to His first priests, the Apostles. He told them, 'Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whosoever sins you forgive, they are forgiven them, and whosoever sins you retain, they are retained (John 20: 21-23)' This was the institution of the Sacrament of Penance.

Today in our society, there are so many abusing this Sacrament. We must understand that in today's world so many go forth to Confession without a true repentant heart. So few recognize the suffering that they caused our Lord Jesus Christ at the Crucifixion. It is because of our sins He was crucified. But I should never consider it to be because of my brother's sins, but because of my own sins He was crucified. This should pierce through my heart to the core of my soul, filling me with a profound sorrow and love for my Lord. Each one of us must look upon this in the same way, as if you or I alone were the only sinner in the whole world.

To receive this Sacrament worthily we must first have an examination of our conscience. One might ask, 'What does an examination of conscience mean?'
